Final pipeline weld, marine terminal progress and floating LNG vessel construction mark a pivotal stage for Canada’s first floating LNG export project and the world’s first Indigenous majority-owned LNG development.

Construction is gaining momentum on the $4 billion Cedar LNG project near Kitimat, B.C., as crews complete key milestones across the marine terminal, pipeline and floating liquefied natural gas facility.
The project – a partnership between Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corp. – is positioning itself to become Canada’s first floating LNG export operation when it enters service in late 2028. The latest achievement is the completion of the final weld on the eight-kilometre pipeline linking the facility to the Coastal GasLink system. The line has now entered pressure testing and verification before being filled with nitrogen until commissioning, while right-of-way restoration proceeds. Ledcor Haisla Limited Partnership is delivering the pipeline work as part of a broader construction program that also includes extensive activity at the marine terminal.
Marine, offshore and power infrastructure progress
Heavy civil crews continue advancing site preparation, grading, drainage and access-road construction at the terminal, with Ledcor reporting that its overall scope remains on schedule for October handover.
Offshore, Samsung Heavy Industries has launched the hull of the floating LNG vessel megugu, now more than 50 per cent complete and being outfitted with Black & Veatch.
Additional work is also underway to prepare a transmission line connecting the facility to BC Hydro’s renewable electricity grid, supporting the project’s low-emissions operating strategy. Peak construction is expected to reach 500 workers before startup, while apprenticeship and workforce development initiatives are preparing Haisla Nation members for long-term operational roles, reinforcing the project’s emphasis on Indigenous participation alongside delivery of one of British Columbia’s most significant energy construction projects.
