A missing socket can stop a Saturday auto repair faster than a stubborn bolt, and replacing tools one at a time costs more than buying a good set. Fortunately, right now, Lowe’s has Craftsman and Kobalt mechanics tool sets up to 57 percent off, including the Craftsman VERSASTACK 242-Piece Mechanics Tool Set for $99 (was $229), $130 off. It includes SAE and metric sockets, three ratchets, combination wrenches, and bits in a three-drawer case. Before choosing a set, compare socket and drive sizes, not just the piece count.
Craftsman’s VERSASTACK cases keep sockets and ratchets organized between repairs, while Kobalt’s chrome-vanadium tools offer durability at a price that leaves room in the budget for the next project. For a smaller gift or a set to keep in the truck, the Project Source 21-Piece Socket Set is $18.98 (was $19.98).

Start with the sizes needed for the vehicles or equipment being serviced, then consider storage. A compact case travels well; a larger drawer set keeps a broader collection organized at home.
