HD Construction Equipment has signed a strategic sales partnership with Manitou Group aimed at expanding both manufacturers’ compact construction equipment portfolios and strengthening their positions in the global equipment market. And the agreement will also see the companies exchange compact equipment product lines, providing customers and dealers with access to a broader range of machines.

The agreement was formalized at Manitou Group’s headquarters in Ancenis, France, with HD Construction Equipment President and CEO Moon Jae-young and Manitou Group President and CEO Sylvain Blaise in attendance.

Expanding equipment portfolios

Under the agreement, HD Construction Equipment will source compact machinery from Manitou Group for distribution through its global sales network. In return, Manitou Group will incorporate HD Construction Equipment’s compact solutions into its Manitou and Gehl product portfolios.

Manitou Group currently distributes equipment in 140 countries, including telehandlers, forklifts, compact loaders and aerial work platforms.

The partnership is expected to strengthen both manufacturers’ product offerings while improving production efficiency, equipment quality and cost competitiveness.

Targeting compact equipment growth

HD Construction Equipment has identified compact machinery as a key growth opportunity, establishing a target of US$950 million in segment sales by 2030.

“This partnership is more than just enhancing our product lines; it opens up important new growth opportunities through significant market expansion,” said Moon Jae-young.

Blaise said the agreement supports Manitou Group’s strategy to accelerate growth in compact equipment while delivering additional value to dealers and customers.

Implications for Canadian contractors

For Canadian general contractors, the partnership could eventually mean broader equipment choices for excavation, material handling and confined jobsite applications. However, neither manufacturer has announced specific Canadian product introductions or availability timelines under the agreement.

The partnership reflects growing manufacturer interest in compact equipment as contractors seek versatile machines capable of supporting multiple construction applications.
